Friday, January 24-25, 2025 - Xiamen, China

Unfortunately, today didn't go quite as planned.  A couple of days ago I hadn't felt very well but didn't feel the need to go to the ship's physician.  I still think I was just suffering from allergies.  However, a few days later Bob began feeling under the weather. Early in the morning, before the start of the tour, Bob decided he wasn't well enough to go out.  With some encouragement, he finally decided to visit the onboard physician.  They tested him for a variety of illnesses, including COVID, and to his total amazement, he tested POSITIVE!!!  This was quite surprising since he had avoided Covid when I had it and was quite ill in 2020.  He had been around many people who tested positive and still he didn't contract it! So, he was quite surprised when he tested positive.  I'm convinced he contracted it from someone on the ship but we'll never know.  He felt quite sick for a couple of days and spent most of his time in bed.  Thankfully, after a few days he felt much better and was ready to rejoin the tours again.  However, his nasty cough remains and the physician told hum he may have it for awhile. I didn't want to leave him alone so both of us remained on the ship during our visit to this port.  Bob was able to take a couple of photos from our balcony.  In viewing the shoreline of this area as we sailed I was struck by the large amount of sky scrapers!  It was what you expect to see in a major metropolitan city.  I decided to ask one of our crew who is knowledgeable about this area.  He told me that the government continues to build these high rise buildings, even though they are not occupied!  A bit curious.  Maybe the want to give the appearance of being a more major city than they really are!!!
